ATRiCS acquires prestigious contract for Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport together with local distribution partner AKBA Technology & Defense Industry Inc.

Dec 10, 2020

ATRiCS has been awarded the contract to introduce TowerPad® as the new airfield lighting panel for Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. While ATRiCS‘ partner TKH Airport Solutions will provide their innovative airfield ground lighting (AGL) and contactless energy technology, TowerPad® will serve as the operational control and monitoring system for the airfield lights. Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is thus following ATRiCS‘ successful implementations of TowerPad® in Dubai International and Abu Dhabi Airport.

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport hosted over 35 million passengers in 2019, is the second busiest airport of Turkey and Europe’s 12th busiest airport. The airport operator decided to expand its airfield with a second runway. Sabiha Gökcen’s efforts to improve energy efficiency helping reduce carbon emissions resulted in the airport becoming one of the few LEED certified airports in the world earlier this year. The choice for ATRiCS TowerPad® and the TKH CEDD® technology is a great fit with the airport’s environmentally-conscious vision and eco-friendly implementations.

Wolfgang Hatzack, CEO of ATRiCS: “We are proud to be selected as the supplier of the air traffic controller’s airfield lighting panel for Sabiha Gökçen. This project fits well with our strategy and our eco-friendly tower automation tools such as the TowerPad®Product. The extensive selection process shows that potential costumers recognize TowerPad‘s distinctive user-friendly graphical user interface and ATRiCS‘ unrivalled experience in integration and automation. We look forward to working on this project with our local distribution partner AKBA Technology.

Osman Aksoy, Co-Founder of AKBA Technology & Defense Industry: “We are delighted that all our hard work to position the ATRiCS innovative TowerPad® at Sabiha Gökçen Airport has resulted in winning one of the most important tenders in Turkey. We now look forward to working on the project with ATRiCS and TKH to make it a success and to exploring new opportunities together in Turkey and beyond.

The contract was signed in October and the project kicked off in November. The new runway is scheduled to be open in 2021.
